He couldn’t really explain how he had gotten roped into this. Sure, he was good at cards, but this was kinda dumb. Fidgeting with his mask, he tapped his foot impatiently on the ground. He was told to come half an hour early to “set up”, but when there is magic involved, there isn’t a lot of manual labor involved in that. With just a wave of his wand he had arranged the table in the center of the room to look as much like the ones you saw in Muggle films as possible. Casino night was a good idea, very film noir but Ben wished he didn’t have to be one of the staff. It was his quick eye and hands that made him such a good dealer, and he usually dealt when his family played, which was always an interesting affair. Still, he hadn’t had the chance to tell Tori, and he prayed that she wouldn’t get too upset with him for not being able to accompany her. He didn’t care how many galleons his “patrons” threw at him, he was going to dance with her tonight because they weren’t quite able to last time.
All good dealers knew that you had to sweeten the pot to get the best playing, so he discreetly added some of his own chips to the middle of the table. Unorthodox, but it worked. Higher stakes meant higher tension, and that would be entertaining while he had to pitch cards to his peers, most of whom probably wouldn’t recognize him. It was a masquerade ball, after all. Straightening his bow tie one last time, he noticed that the first steady stream of student was slipping in the doors to the Great Hall. Everyone looked good, and the girls were dressed very Old Hollywood, with feathers and sparkling collars. He hoped that Tori would spot him, and perhaps sit on his lap and he generally adorable while he had to work volunteer for the school. Resting an elbow on the table, he sighed quietly, and began to deal cards with quick precision as players began to fill the seats around him. How many school aged kids knew how to play poker, anyway? This game was probably going to be pathetic, giggling fifteen year olds asking each others’ counsel on the moves they should next make.

It was finally here. When Cordelia heard that Hogwarts was putting on a Casino Night, Cordelia was all in. Cordelia knew only one game that Muggles played and that was Poker. The whole point was to keep a straight face so nobody would know. Well, that and the fact that you needed to win by getting the best hand. Cordelia had gone to a baseball camp with Muggles to work on her aim and hit for her position on her Hufflepuff Quidditch team. They consisted of girls ages sixteen to eighteen. It was amazing how scandalous the eighteen year olds could be. That group of eighteen year olds had taught the rest how to play Texas Hold'em and it was a blast. Granted, Cordelia wasn't the best in the group, but perhaps she'd have some luck here at Casino Night. Surely not everybody is going to know the Muggle game.
It was also a mask wearing event since it was a twenty's themed night. Well, it was techinically Old Hollywood, but Cordelia had her friend look up what that meant and she heard the word flapper. Long story short, Cordelia asked her mother to send a raunchy white flapper outfit for the event going on at school. To her surprise, her mother had sent her a fairly decent outfit. As she looked at herself in the mirror, Cordelia saw a woman in a white, rectangular dress that had many fringes on it. The long pearl necklace almost blended in with the color of the dress as well as her pearl earrings in her hair. Looking at her hair, she created a bob with her hair ( which took a large amount of bobby pins and magic ) and liked how she looked. Slipping into the red Prada shoes she already owned, Cordelia felt like she was missing something. Looking on her bed, she picked up the fake smoking stick. It looked like something a woman would use back then to smoke, but instead of inhaling smoke, it was a cinnamon and vanilla mix her grandmother had come up with to quit the bad smoking habit she had.
She was finally ready to go down. She wasn't really sure who would all be down there, but Cordelia wanted to go alone since that was the whole point: not knowing who was there. Everybody had masks on and this was a time to really find someone you could talk to without being judged or judge others. The room looked fantastic. Cordelia immediately began to look for the poker table, but of course in a graceful, nonchalant way since she was a flapper. Flappers were mysterious women who could seduce anybody they wanted to. Sitting down, she nodded to the card dealer - no doubt a student and waited for some other to arrive at the table as well. She fingered the white laced mask on her face held up by magic as she waited.

Once again her mother had chosen well. It had been a mad rush to get hold of a dress that fitted her petite frame and that complimented her curves but it was worth it. Victoria slipped quite nicely into the long metallic blue dress and adjusted the shoulder so that it was perfect on her pale white skin. Thoughts ran through her head and she became afraid of what people would say when they saw her at the ball, after all at the last ball she had caused quite a scene and didn’t want people to follow her around to see if she would attack some poor girl again. A small sigh left her lips as she sat on the end of her bed in the long blue dress and wonder what tonight had in store for her, hopefully no fights of course. Carefully she curled her long blonde hair till it had a perfect bounce to it and then slipped on her high heels before leaving the common room with her friends. They talked about what could happen tonight and Victoria fell quiet not wanting to interrupt the conversation after the last ordeal, after all she didn’t want to seem like a hypocrite after her last attempt to attack Amelia Selwyn. Before they got to the doors Victoria slipped on her masquerade mask and left her friends without saying goodbye, she just wanted to find Ben and enjoy her night with him.
It was difficult to find him amongst the crowd or on any tables and she hoped that he was here somewhere seeing as they were going to dance tonight, it was agreed after the Halloween ball. Brown eyes scanned the crowds and tables until she spotted someone like Ben but she didn’t want to approach just in case it wasn’t him, which would be embarrassing. Silently she walked past the table he was sat at and observed him trying to figure out if it was him but she couldn’t be sure. Victoria had never been a fan of poker but if he was dealing at the table she’d have to make do and stick it out, since she wanted to be with him all night, only if he was comfortable with it. The dealer looked like Ben and had the same hair that disobeyed gravity, the hair she loved gliding her fingers through and playing with. Without saying a word she moved behind him and slid her fingers through his hair and bent down to kiss his neck, hopefully it was Ben otherwise she’d have some explaining to do. “Miss me much?”

Drumming his fingers on the table and his foot on the floor in a complex rhythm, he watched as the students began to flutter around the Great Hall. No one seemed to be much interested in poker, either they were Wizaring-born, and therefore had no idea how to play, or were too young when they left their Muggle families. Parents didn't want their kids learning poker, or gambling at all. It was a bad habit. But when you didn't need to sleep or eat or even breathe, you picked up all sorts of weird skills. Ben was not only a decent poker player, betrayed by his nervous ticks, but also a scuba diver. And a quill maker. It was all very weird, the things he picked up from his family. It was a relief, though, when someone joined him at the poker table. He sat up a little straighter, and ceased his drumming on the table clothed surface. It was hard to tell, with masks and all, but she had the light blonde hair of a certain talented Hufflepuff chaser. It was hard to forget. Van was bragging in the common room about how he totally did her, although Ben had learned to take tales of Acosta's sexploits with a grain of salt. He eyed her curiously as she sat down and asked, "Have any friends that might want to play?
" nervously shuffling his deck. Poker with only one with not fun, after all. He felt slim fingers slip into his hair and he immediately colored. Half of him was insanely glad that Tori was here, but part of him wanted to be as professional as possible, and lusting after his girlfriend while dealing cards wasn't the way to go about that. He arched his neck, involuntarily, giving her more access before turning around slightly and taking her in. She was perfect, as always, stunning in a cerulean dress that showed off her petite body. " Very much," he breathed, telling his heartbeat to calm. They were together, after all, no need for him to get all worked up like be was going to have to ask her out again. " Um, are you going to play poker, or are you just here for, well," He smiled sheepishly and grasped for her hand. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

It must of been obvious to the entire school that Victoria Abercrombie and Ben D'eath were all loved up, but being with Ben wasn't all fun and games. After all she was dating a vampire and had a massive decision to make if she wanted to be with Ben forever. If you asked any girl if she'd throw away her family to be with her boyfriend forever, she'd say yes, but when it actually happened it was a difficult decision to make. Of course Victoria loved Ben, with all her heart, but it was hard to turn around and say she'd stay with him. She wanted to, she wanted to spend every moment with him but she didn't want to leave her beloved family behind, after all, she loved them to much to ignore them.
Gently Tori slipped her fingers between Ben's. This whole casino night wasn't her thing, but it gave her an excuse to see Ben and spend as much time as she could with him. "I don't know how to play poker, so, I'm not sure what I'm going to do really." Tori pouted and then smiled before lightly pressing her lips against his cheek, and then with her thumb removed the lipstick mark she had left on his cheek.
ooc; sorry its short.

She was by herself yes, but where was the fun in having everybody else know who you are? Well, Cordelia figured some people would recognize her anyways since she was a sixth year after all, but Cordelia pretended other people didn't know who was behind the mask she was wearing. As she sat down, she was still trying to figure out who the student was dealing the poker game she was sitting at. Cordelia was a terrible at recognizing faces with names and with the masks on everybody else, Cordelia would have to be careful who she tried to flirt with. She didn't want to end up with some troll from Slytherin or a cocky dick head from Gryffndor either. Cordelia rolled her eyes as she thought of how she wasn't digging the whole masquerade anymore. She chewed on her fake smoking stick as she looked around.
She turned her head when the boy spoke up. Now where had she heard that voice before? Cordelia thought as he listened to his question. "I'm riding solo tonight, hun." Cordelia replied, trying out a few pet names her grandmother used frequently on every person she talked to. She was going to say sweetlips or something far worse, but she wasn't going to embarrass herself too much tonight. She did want to keep the mysterious aura about her still. He still hadn't dealt yet, but Cordelia didn't blame him since a woman came over to harass the poor kid. The man seemed to like it though. Blonde hair, not afraid to show some PDA, must be none other than Abercrombie. Cordelia rolled her eyes ( thankfully she had that mask on as well so nobody could see the eye roll ) and knew that Ben D'eath was the dealer. Cordelia slouched a bit knowing that these two would be all over each other all night. She just had to pick the table Ben was at, didn't she? Cordelia began to look around, hoping someone decent would come over to play so she could distract herself from the couple. Even that kid she met on the Quidditch Pitch a couple of weeks ago would do. She couldn't even say to deal already since there weren't enough people to actually play a game. There were only a few other fifth years who thought they could play the game of poker.
