Rose had always been the dramatic sort, the one that needed all eyes on her at all times. She would shrivel, wilt without attention, be it positive or negative. Sometimes, she thought she rather preferred negative attention, as long as her peers were scared of her. As long as they didn’t try to confront her in the corridors, as long as they kept spreading the most vicious rumors about her that she neither confirmed or denied, she was happy. She sparkled, and she knew that they would never get the best of her. They would never embarass her enough to bring her down, and she would come out on top. That was her justification for slamming open the wooden double doors to the library, marching forward in her leather boots. The quiet atmosphere of the library quickly disapparated, and and librarian scowled at her. Rose shot her a cynical smile. She glared at the whispering fourth years with malice in their eyes, and continued her march through the center aisle of the library, whipping her curls from side to side as she looked between the book cases.
She hadn’t been here in a while, she realized, as the dusty smell of books and old leather crept into her nose. Even though there was the sounds of footsteps and quills scratching on parchment, they were muffled by the dusty carpet. She felt distinctly out of her element, but she would never show it. People being quiet, studying, was totally not her thing. She was smart, sure, but she would never do more work than was necessary to get a top score. “Hugo?
” she called, rather loudly, much to the annoyance of some seventh years hunched over their NEWT work. “ Hugo!” Hugo was different, of course. He was always in the library, going above and beyond the course material. He has practically a genius, and had entered Hogwarts the same year she did, even though they were almost a year apart. She was insanely proud of him. “ Hugo!” Where was he? Was it possible that he was actually not in the library? No, the hours in betweeen the last class and dinner were prime studying time. If she was going to take time out of her day, he might as well respond to her, right? She missed him, she really did. It was already November and they hadn’t really talked at all since the summer. Conversations with him were so enlightening, as he was far separated from all the Hogwarts drama. He was refreshing, and she needed that. As much as she craved the constant attention, it grew tiring, dull, and she needed some family time. And who was closer to her than Hugo, her almost twin? It was like having a perpetual best friend, but even better, because they were family. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Hugo wasn't going to miss studying, it was one of the more important events of his day. He found that like others, the time between his last class and dinner proved to be the perfect time to apply himself to the extra work and revision. He hadn't ever got low marks in a test and he was pretty proud of himself because after all, he was the youngest in his year. Hugo was fourteen whereas everyone else, including his sister, was fifteen. He had definitely inherited his intelligence from his mother, the smartest of the infamous trio. However, Hugo inherited most of his nature from his father and uncles. He was pretty easy going and a good laugh but like his father, if he ever lost it he really did lose it. Hugo was focused on his book when he heard his name being yelled rather loudly throughout the library.
He wasn't exactly surprised when he recognized the voice as Rose's. She was certainly the more ballsy out of both of them and he had to give her some credit for daring to disturb the concentration of the seventh years. "Rose, over here!" Hugo responded, trying to be quiet. He didn't want to be too loud because he didn't want to be the one receiving a beating at the end of the day. Hugo was pretty easy to bully because he wouldn't stand up for himself, he couldn't really. He could be considered a coward but to him he was the bigger man, he would try not to rise to such people. However, that being said Hugo wasn't a complete wimp. His family were aware that he could be very reckless when he was angry but he always regretted it.
"Rose! What are you doing raising your voice in the library?!" he whispered to her as she neared. He wasn't really sure why he had asked because he knew that his sister would come back with something sarcastic or witty. Hugo was quite jealous of her because she had everything that he lacked but then he had what she lacked so he supposed that's why they were able to be sort of close friends alongside their brother-sister relationship. He got on with most of his cousins, he really did, but Rose was different to them. She wasn't afraid to stand out from the crowd and she would stick up for him. He thought she was the perfect sister and he was proud to be her younger brother.
"We haven't spoke much have we? Come on sis', take a seat," he smiled softly towards her. He knew she would anyway, but he was polite. Well, he liked to think he was anyway.

When Rose heard Hugo’s voice in a whisper coming from a table on her left, relief flooded her. What if she had antagonized herself toward her seniors for nothing? What if Hugo had gotten really really angry at her for disturbing him in the library? Usually he was pretty laid back, but if you bothered him, he would hold a grudge forever. Basically the opposite of Rose. She was quick to anger and lash out, but it was mostly for show, and once she established that she was much, much better than you, she would let it go. Maybe tease you about it once and a while, but by then you were in love with her. Or at least she fancied. She gave her brother a quick wave and strutted over to where he was sitting, her arms conspicuously lacking a bag of study materials of any kind. Any other student might recommend at least bring a quill to study in the library, but Rose rarely brought her books to class, and baffled her teachers when she did well. It shouldn’t surprise them too much. She was the daughter of the Hermione Granger, after all. “I was trying to get your attention, which wouldn’t be necessary if you’re head wasn’t stuck in a book all the time,
” she retorted, but not sharply enough for him to think that she was actually mad at him. “ How’s my little brother doing?” she said in a lower voice, as she rested her chin on his blond hair, her brilliant curls grazing his shoulders. She gave him a brief hug from behind. Sure, she had friends, lots of them, but none of them were real like he was, and quite honestly, he was the only nerd she could be friends with without it ruining her reputation. She sat in the chair next to him, sideways, so that her legs were dangling off one arm and her hair tumbled down the other. “ Making our mother proud, I see, she said, gesturing to the book in front of him. “ Hugo, you work too much for your own good. You should be out, you know, having friends and stuff.” She shot him a smile. “ Whatever, Hugo, whatever makes you happy.” She shifted a little in her seat, Rose Weasley was not known for sitting still, and adjusted her position so that she was kneeling on the leather chair, and wrapped his arm around his shoulders. “ So. Anything exciting happen to you this term yet? Bang any hot chicks?” She said it more in jest than anything, as he was only fourteen and dreadfully quiet and polite. But if he was getting it on with some girl, she would want to know. She would have to determine the girl’s threat level to their relationship: there were plenty of students that thought that Rose was a waste of oxygen. If one of those people were hooking up with Hugo, he might realize she wasn’t all that great. And she would be crushed. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Hugo shook his head grinning when his sister had spotted him and waved. He really loved her, even if she was such a bitch. He certainly was the inferior one of the two and she usually got her way with him. Hugo was soft when it came to family, he'd give everything, well almost everything. It was clear that he was much unlike his sister in the way he managed his anger. She seemed to use it as a form of gaining attention, making people fear her and feel inferior to her. Hugo however didn't like being angry at all and when he was he couldn't forget, he held grudges against people. He was the type of person who liked to read people, find out what makes them tick and he had the tendency to use it against them. However he always regretted it and he'd never blurt anything out in public, he just used it to knock them down a peg or two. "Well maybe if you paid more attention to me than your reputation then you might find out that I always sit at this table," he smiled smugly. He knew his sister meant nothing by it but he wasn't about to let it slide either.
"I'm well, my darling sister," he laughed. She was the only girl that had got so close to him because after all, he wasn't exactly the knight in shining in armor, far from it really. He was rather unattractive and he wasn't a talkative person so no girl gave him the time of their day. Hugo would rather have it that way because he knew girls were a distraction from schoolwork and then he'd have to have his sister like her. He wasn't sure he'd be able to love a girl that his sister actually liked because after all, his sister was an attention whore and she preferred to have him love only her. Hugo smiled when she hugged him from behind and rested her chin upon his head, "Yeah, like always." He felt that he could have made his mother much more proud by being in Gryffindor instead of Ravenclaw. "I don't have any friends Rose," he smiled weakly. Sure, he was exaggerating but the friends he did have weren't worth noting. They didn't know the true Hugo, the one that loved nothing more than a bottle of firewhiskey at the end of the day. His whole family thought he was like Percy, he was intelligent and always working on something. Hugo did it to pass the time and usually it helped him to get away from his family and friends.
"Rose, studying doesn't make me happy but I haven't got anything better to do, other than-" he paused for a second and he smiled nervously. He wasn't sure whether he should admit to his addiction or not because he wasn't sure how Rose would take it. She might use it against him or she might be angry with him because after all, she liked to protect him despite the fact he was more sensible than she was. "I'm sorry to disappoint you but I'm a nerd, Rose, I don't get hot chicks do I," he frowned. Hugo looked down at his book for a second before returning his gaze to Rose with a small smile. He was useless with girls and sure, he had crushes on the attractive, popular girls but he was terrified to say anything.

Rose was disappointed, somewhat, that Hugo was so antisocial. If he had been a little more outgoing, they could have been a force to be reckoned with, they would have taken the fifth year by storm. But in a way, she was glad that she was the only one in the spotlight, and she could have Hugo all to herself. Seriously, if some bitch stomped on his heart, she would kill her without hesitation. Only she could hurt Hugo, because she knew how to make it better. She was rather protective of all her family, and would hate to see any of them, even Violet, who she knew harbored a dislike for her, in pain. But Hugo was different. Whenever she saw him being picked on, she wanted to slap him for being such a pushover, and slap his tormentors for being such gits. “You’re such a nerd,
” she retorted, narrowing her eyes. Sitting at the same table everyday, it was so Hugo. “ And I hardly care about my reputation,” she sniffed, “ It’s not my fault everyone loves me, is it?” She daintily rested her hand over her chest and batted her eyelashes. Ruffling his hair, she said, “ Hugo, I’m glad that you think you are well, but I wouldn’t be so sure.” She gestured to the wide expanse of the library. “ You can do so much better than this. Look, Hugo, you’re handsome, nice, and my little brother. Everyone would love you too if you gave them the chance to get to know you.” She gently scooted his books to the other side of the table. It was true. Hugo could have friends if he wanted to, but he seemed intent on closing himself off from the rest of the castle. Rose couldn’t imagine a life like that. Without people to interact with, she felt like she would fade away and lose all significance. “ If it doesn’t make you happy, why are you doing it?” she asked, a little confused. Hugo was the happy-go-lucky type that was content doing just about anything. “ And sorry, what else could you do?” She spotted his nervous smile, and leaned forward. They had grown up together, so they could read each other’s faces like a book. Was he keeping secrets from her? That didn’t make her that angry, it just made her sad. She missed the days when they would tell each other everything, every insignificant story, every little feeling. “ It’s okay, little Hugo. Tell your Rosie everything,” She leaned his head against her shoulder. “ And Rosie will tell you how to get hot chicks,” she said with a small smile. She would do anything to help her brother, to make him feel more comfortable in his position as shrimp of the year. She hugged Hugo closer to her, comforting him. He didn’t let on, but he seemed to be torn up about something, and Rose was determined to fix it to the best of her ability. She was like that. If something was broken, and it was hers, she had the compulsive desire to fix it. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Everyone that knew both Rose and Hugo found it difficult to understand how they were related. Hugo was, after all, very antisocial and he always had his head in a book whilst Rose strutted about with that clique of hers. He truly loved her and he would be forever grateful for her kindness towards him. Hugo was a nerd and he sometimes wondered why she gave him the time of her day, surely she had some other students to rip apart. However he also knew that they had a close bond, and it had stuck since they were really young but then again, he surely was a burden for her around the school. "Tell me something I don't know," he stuck his tongue out slightly. She probably thought he was a complete loser but he didn't care, it was his routine and he wasn't about to change it anytime soon. Perhaps that was why she wasn't hitting the grades, he knew she was very bright but she lacked the commitment and organization to put it to good use. She mainly used her brains for pulling pranks, or simply to rip into people. "Oh yeah? That's news to me," he laughed at her next actions, she was such a poser. "I suppose not."
"I swear I'm fine," Hugo smiled softly. It made him feel at ease when she comforted him, and despite the fact he would never admit it he needed her. He was the most dependent Weasley, yet he relied on his sister's love. Surely it was sad, but he wasn't usually treated in such a way. Hugo was treated like an adult because of his maturity and sometimes it felt nice to be reminded that he was just a teenager, and that he didn't have to deal with everything by himself. "Rose you're wrong for a change," he frowned whilst she moved his books. He didn't really have a reason for isolating himself so much, it was more about his confidence than anything. Hugo feared that by opening himself up to people and growing such and attachment would not only distract him from his schoolwork but that he could be hurt. It was very difficult to hurt Hugo because he felt nothing for the people that picked on him, he felt emptiness.
"I do it because it because then at least I'm not such a disappointment of a son," he admitted. It was nice for him to finally blurt out how he felt, it was rather refreshing. He wasn't anything compared to Rose, she was everything that he was not. "If you must know, I don't just pass the time by doing extra work. I drink, a lot." He let her rest his head rest his head against her shoulder and then he felt that sense of security that he hadn't felt since they had last met. She had that effect on him and he wasn't about to complain either. "I doubt any hot chick will be interested in me," he smiled slightly. It was a nice offer but there was no doubt that he'd mess up and he'd end up hurt.

She had only been here a few minutes and already she felt like the library was disagreeing with her. The smell of old books and dust made her nose itch. Of course she didn’t have issues reading, she liked learning, but only things that she deemed interesting. However, she would never be like her mother or Hugo that would read any book that would come their noses. That just seemed like a waste of time. What was the point of knowing about Asiatic freshwater plants? She wasn’t sure what she was going to do with her future, but Herbology definitely wasn’t in it. Her dream was to be a professional seeker. Last year, her first year on the team, she had made it to the finals only to lose to Sergei Krum. So that wasn’t too bad at all. But being an athlete could only support her for so many years, and probably not a family as well. Her family was financially secure, very much so, but just because Ron spoiled Rose and Hugo for the first years of their lives didn’t mean he would support them as adults. Hermione would definitely object to that.
That left marrying a rich man, and while Rose had no fundamental problems with that, it felt like giving up, especially when Hugo would have a successful career with whatever he would decide to do. When it came to academics, anything Hugo touched turned to gold. She crinkled her nose slightly and stuck out her tongue as well. “I couldn’t, because the problem with you is that you know entirely too much.
” If he wanted to be stuck in this lifeless library half the day, that was his call, but he was only young once. He could study when he was old and gray, but partying would be weird at that age. “ And Hugo, don’t tell me that I’m wrong. The only person that hates that more is our mothers.” She gave him an exaggerated, disapproving frown, but quickly broke out into a soft giggle. “ I’m not going to tell you what you can and cannot do. But you have to learn to take risks, like I do. And that’s why I’m in Gryffindor, and you’re not.” She tapped the edge of his nose. She felt slightly guilty pulling the whole house thing out, mostly because she didn’t really deserve to be in Gryffindor at all. She knew deep down inside she was the biggest coward ever. “ Oh Hugo, you’re the best brother anyone could have. I don’t think you should worry about being a disappointment.” If he wasn’t doing this for himself, but for their parents, that was even worse. “ If anyone’s the disappointment, it’s me.” And it was true. Of course Ron liked that his little daughter was good at quidditch, but her mother was impossible to please, and though she knew that her parents loved her, she could never measure up to their expectations. But when Hugo told her that he drank, she was surprised, but she supposed she shouldn’t be. After all, kids turned to alcohol when they were under stress, or just bored. Drinking alone was just so depressing, though. “ Why didn’t you tell me before?” she asked softly. Now he had no excuse to not want to come out with her, alcohol was liquid courage. She suddenly felt accusatory, and she heard it creep into her voice. “ But you clearly have a thing for some hot chicks,” She backed away from him a bit, as if he was tainted. “ I’ve heard about you and Rosalie Young.” She said the name with as much distaste as possible. Rosalie, in a few words, thought she was the greatest. And she hated Rose for not being bubbly and nice a hundred percent of the time. If she was getting with Hugo, Hugo would hate Rose too, and that would kill her. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Hugo knew that Rose disapproved of his hardcore studying, she always had. However he couldn't just drop it, not until he was sure he was good at something else. He didn't like being permanently attached to a book but if he dropped it he'd be worthless. It was true that he'd wanted to be a Quidditch player but he was a failure and it had took a long time before everyone forgot. He was so embarrassed about it and it contributed to his lack of confidence. Hugo had no choice but to stick to what he knew and shy away from all distractions. He really wanted to be able to make Rose proud of him for a change, and it hurt him a little that he couldn't be what she wanted him to be.
"You're smarter than you make out, if only you applied yourself in lessons," he smiled briefly. Hugo just wanted to shift the topic from him, it was always about him. As if he didn't feel bad enough already that he memorized page by page of his favorite books. Rose was great at cheering him up but she was also pretty good at making him feel down. "But the thing is Rose, is that our mother usually is correct," he laughed. Hugo wanted to believe what Rose had to say but he was terrified. The last thing he wanted was to be embarrassed for opening himself up to people. "Whatever, Rose," he mumbled. She had certainly hit a nerve. He was sour about being put into Ravenclaw and he didn't like to talk about it one bit. He felt that he had disappointed his whole family by not being sorted into Gryffindor.
"Why's that?" Hugo asked feeling intrigued. He didn't exactly have any other qualities worth mentioning, he was just a nerd. It might have been easier for her with her being in Gryffindor and on the Quidditch team but he had a tough time being noticed. "No you aren't. You're a proper Weasley, you're in Gryffindor. I'm the freak of the family." It felt nice to be able to express his anger and bitterness. He locked everything inside of him and it was good to release it all. "Because I thought you would be angry with me," Hugo admitted quietly. Alcohol wasn't the best route to head down but it was his only way to vent and when he drank he felt confident. It was as if all of his worries faded away within an instance and he could take on the whole world. He wasn't proud of himself and he knew his parents would kill him but now that he had started he couldn't stop.
"I'm pretty sure every guy has a thing for hot chicks," he smiled weakly. "It's not like that! We haven't spoke that much - I mean, we're only friends!" Hugo thought that the girl was pretty, of course, but whoever had been spreading such rumors had obviously gotten the wrong stick. If he liked her the way that people were saying he did he wouldn't even be able to approach her, never mind have a conversation with her.

Rose sighed deeply, feeling Hugo’s hair tickle her shoulder through the thin fabric of her shirt. If he was going to be in a relationship, she wanted to be able to know who it was with. Not just so that he would continue to have a positive view of her, but also she could ensure that he wouldn’t be heartbroken. Hugo was much too sensitive for his own good, and he would not be able to stand up for himself if the relationship went badly. This would all be solved if he could a series of flings, but Hugo would probably get attached romantically. He was too sweet, and if he didn’t find an equally sweet girl, his heart would be stomped on. Rose wasn’t known for caring too much about anything, and she usually strutted around campus without any fucks to give. But she loved her family, it was in her Weasley blood, especially Hugo. She usually kept her affection for him from her friends, but if they made fun of him, she turned mama bear real fast.
“Hugo, what’s the point? I know I’ll do fine on my OWLs, and I tutor my friends sometimes. There’s no reason to get straight Os,
” she glanced at the books in front of him, “ And I’m pretty sure this isn’t even course material. Tell me what you are going to do with your life that requires this.” Rose did like learning, but only if it was applicable. Learning for the sake of learning, or to fancy yourself better than those with less knowledge seemed like a waste. She knew that Hugo wasn’t pretentious, but apparently he sure seemed like it to the beef-headed bullies. They were jealous of him, she had told him countless times. They were jealous of his brains and knew that they would never be worth as much as him. “ You gotta promise that you’ll come out with me soon.” People would accept him more as her brother if he started acting more like her. Houses for them were always a sore topic. Rose was convinced she was meant for Slytherin, because of her mean, cowardly nature, and Hugo thought he had failed his family by being sorted into Ravenclaw. “ Violet is a Ravenclaw too, you’re not the black sheep of the family. Plus, our whole family loves you while everyone is scared of me.” She quickly blinked back an unexpected tear. She hated being mean to people sometimes, but it seemed to be the only interesting thing about her, so she kept it up for her friends’ amusement and for her reputation. It was fun at first, except then she realized she was actually hurting people, people with tons of insecurities like Hugo. If some bitch were taunting Hugo she’d punched her. It was a terrible double standard. “ You know Hugo, we Gryffindors value truth.” She sniffed a little, and felt guilty. If she could have somehow helped him, he wouldn’t have turned to drink. She narrowed her eyes in suspicion. “ Seriously, pick a better hot chick. Rosalie is a, a...” She couldn’t find a good enough word. “ Ryn Wood is nice.” But better yet, Ryn was easily controlled by Rose, and wanted to please her. She wasn’t too bad looking, either. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Hugo and Rose couldn't be any more different. He was the typical little brother, the one who is ever so innocent and studious. He was bullied by people remarkably similar to Rose, and he couldn't fight back, he didn't have a fighting spirit. He couldn't ever in a million years hurt someone, the guilt would kill him. Rose was basically the opposite, she was a bully and a bitch. He couldn't help but love her despite the fact he could never agree with her spitefulness. He actually loved all of his family but since her departure from Hogwarts he had held a grudge against Victoire. She was so selfish for leaving her family for some pompous school. He had tried to convince her to stay but she wouldn't listen to him, and for that he could never forgive her.
"It'll get me a good job, that's for sure," he murmured. "I'm not sure if you understand Rose, but I have nothing better to do. I have found that all i'm good at, so that's what i'll do." Hugo hated the fact that the topic limelight was still upon him, it was always him. He did appreciate it, but Rose couldn't understand him properly and she never would. He didn't have the confidence to party and go out with her. It was as if she wanted him to be like her and in the process it only made him feel bad about himself. He couldn't ever be what everyone wanted him to be and although he had been ever so determined in the past to fit in with everyone he had gave up. It was the only fight that he had ever lost. "And have everyone mock me in front of the school? I can't do it Rose." Hugo didn't want to have to go through anything like that, he feared it.
"The thing is though, Rose, is that she isn't a nerd like me. I'd rather be feared than sympathized by the whole family." He wished he was like Rose, perhaps then everyone would take him seriously for a change. It was like he was the household baby, he had everyone looking after him and protecting him. Sure, he couldn't stand up to people but he'd rather be bullied and feel independent than sympathized. Rose was a strong person with a strong personality, and she was horrible to people yet they still followed her around. He was inferior to her and he would always feel that their parents were most proud of her. "And what would you have done?" He felt that it came out more harshly than he actually intended but he was annoyed. Hugo hated houses being brought into things and besides, she couldn't have done anything to help him.
"Rose, I want to be with someone I love. I don't just want to go around picking out random girls," he rolled his eyes. She just seemed to want him to pick someone but he honestly hadn't fallen for anyone yet. Hugo was into relationships, not flings. He believed that relationships were supposed to last forever.

She knew that the awkwardness between her and Hugo could be cured if she could just get people to stop making fun of him all the time. Rose felt guilty about that, because she had teased him throughout their childhood, making him easy to pushover and perhaps sending the wrong message that people only make fun of you because they love you. She had unknowingly conditioned him to accept abuse, and how, if the rumors were true, he was getting ganged up on a regular basis. Rose could probably get them to stop, but she was hesitant to ask Hugo who they were, for fear that they were her close friends. If that was so, she would have to re-evaluate her priorities: popularity and friends or the safety of her brother? If she was a less selfish person, her decision would have been much easier, but she liked the comfort of being known, and being feared. She wasn’t sure she could sacrifice that, especially now that the parties were getting good, even if it was for her beloved brother.
“Hugo. You don’t need to work this hard to get a good job.
” She was beginning to get frustrated, Hugo was just so set in his ways. “ We are famous, and we are smart. If you haven’t noticed, we have these things called connections. As long as you don’t piss anyone off, you’re guaranteed more than a job, a way of life.” She dramatically draped her hand over her forehead. She hoped that was how it would work. Her father, she loved him, but he wasn’t anything special in the brains department. So how did he become a respected Auror? It was clearly because he was married to the most brilliant, trustworthy witch of her generation, and was best friends with the Boy-Who-Lived. So Rose could squeak by on the same merit, right? Her mother would surely put in a good word for her, if not Uncle Harry. “ You know I won’t let them make fun of you,” she said fiercely. “ You’ll shock them by how much you can keep down.” You’ll be cool, she wanted to say. Everyone will love you, she wanted to say. And it would be true. Rose couldn’t imagine someone knowing Hugo truly, not just as the bookish little kid, and hating him. “ And Violet is a werewolf too, and she manages to not get excluded.” She noted. If Violet could have friends, anyone could have friends, the way she saw it. She loved all her cousins, but that didn’t mean she liked all her cousins. “ Um,” she said, mocking thoughtfully, “ I think I would have made sure you didn’t poison yourself, which is more than your so called friends can say.” She was pretty damn protective, and she saw that his friends didn’t even like him that much. Like her friends, sorta. She scoffed a bit when he mentioned that he was going to be with someone he loved. “ Okay, Romeo, as long as you don’t fall in love with that Rosalie, I’m good.” She knew that if she set him up with the perfect girl, that his stock would rise exponentially. She wasn’t even sure she believed in love, romantic stuff anyway. She knew she loved her family, but as for relationships, all she’d had were flings. She wasn’t into that lovey-dovey stuff. Hugo felt that bit of awkwardness between him and Rose. It was because they were so different and they valued different things. She seemed to value her status and Hugo valued his education. He didn't really have much else, so what the heck. Rose had everything that he had ever wanted, so he pushed her to enjoy every second of it. He was jealous of her but he was also happy for her. She was his sister after all and he was proud of her although he wasn't sure if she felt the same way about him. He was probably an embarrassment to her which was why she was always trying to coax him into being like her. She'd always tell him to do this and do that when in reality he couldn't do it. He was terrified of embarrassing himself in front of the whole school.
"Rose can you just drop it?" She knew that he hadn't been given a choice in the matter of his lifestyle but she consistently tried to change him. It was like she was trying to make him realize that he could be like her, but he knew he couldn't. Hugo couldn't pretend he was something he wasn't, not since the day he was sorted into Ravenclaw. "I don't care about connections, I want to grow up and be myself. I don't just want to be known for draining our parent's reputation," he frowned at her. It would make him feel fake to live a lifestyle that he hadn't even earned.
"Yeah, then they'll rip me to pieces afterwards," he shook his head. "Fine, i'll go with you!" His submissive nature was kicking in again. He couldn't help but agree with people if they pushed with enough force in their argument. Hugo was still unsure if people had realized if that was a trait of his yet. He feared that if any bully found out about it, that they'd use it against him. "Yeah, I was just being an idiot." He still felt the same way but he just couldn't argue his point any longer. "I'm not going to argue with you, but you couldn't have stopped me," he admitted. Hugo would've drank still, and even if she did stop him, he would just find something else to use as a vent. Maybe even drugs if he could have found a source.
"What's your problem with Rosalie anyway?" he asked her. Rosalie had told him in the courtyard that she was terrified of Rose, but he couldn't figure out what the big deal was. They were both Gryffindors and they both had things in common. If anything it was Hugo was the one suffering the most. He had to take in both of their views and try to make sense of it, and maybe even find a way to stop the tension between both girls.

Hugo was her best friend, no matter what she told her cronies. Although she cared about what people thought about her to a point, she'd rather have people conform to her opinions and values than submitting to others' herself. So she never really hid her relationship with Hugo, and her friends knew that he was important to her. But she always had trouble convincing them that he was not some sort of a leper. They were so worried with their own reputations that he could not improve his. She didn't know when it started, this whole "let's torment Hugo" business, but it was definitely early on, and no one had dared to stop the pattern, although Rose sincerely did the best she could. She never once considered if Hugo might change if he was brought more in the inner circle of the school. She was confident that he wouldn't become douchebaggy, and perhaps influence the more thug-like ones to amend their ways. It was really part of her master plan to reform the social scene of the school by their last year, and it could only happen if she and Hugo were leading the changes.
"Well, that's mighty ungrateful of you
" she said petulantly. " Some kids at the school would kill to be born as you, even without your brains, and you're just going to throw it all way?" But she knew that she had already basically lost the argument. Hugo was honest, and she loved that about him. The studying, though, it dimmed the energetic, innocent light in his blue eyes and she hated that. She smiled sweetly, her way of indicating that she had lost the argument, although her tongue would not let her miss a single retort. She would concede with his wishes and simply drop it, because he really didn't mean any more bullying in his life. Her face lit up with joy and she clapped her hands together when he said he would go with her. " Yay!" she said, sounding rather like a small child on Christmas. She unfolded her legs in the comfy chair; now that she had accomplished what she came do to, there was no more reason to stay in the stuffy library. " I'm holding you to that, Hugo. Don't think I'm going to forget." She hopped out the chair, landing smartly on her feet. " Your nagging older sister has to go now, I have people to entertain." She dragged out the last word mock-pompously, and giggled at her own silliness. Stooping down to kiss Hugo on the forehead and pinch his cheek, she took a few strides in the direction of the double doors, leading out of this dusty prison that Hugo subjected himself to. Her happy mood was soiled a bit when she heard Rosalie's name being called after her. What about this girl attracted Hugo so much anyway? She glanced over her shoulder and spit back, " I might be a bitch, but at least I'm real.." There was no doubt in her mind that Rosalie's little miss perfect act was fake. No one was that nice naturally. Rose pushed past the doors, slightly fuming. If she had to hear more about Rosalie, the girl who had a name irritatingly similar to hers, she might have to ruin the girl's reputation. [/blockquote][/blockquote]
